Sherlock Holmes – Le Secret le mieux gardé

Quel est donc le secret le mieux gardé ?

Est-ce que Sherlock Holmes ressent des sentiments?

Quand son frère, Mycroft, est jeté en prison et accuse de trahison, Sherlock Holmes qui clamait haut et fort être à la retraite n’a pas d’autre choix que d’essayer de résoudre le problème qui pourrait bien être le dernier pour Mycroft… Et ce, malgré l’opposition du gouvernement britannique qui envoie Lestrade dire à Holmes de rester à la retraite. Comme si ça allait marcher !

Il y a de nombreux secrets dans cette pièce… Et je ne vais pas vous les révéler, bien sûr.

Mais, ce que je peux vous dire c’est que ce spectacle a été une délectation du début à la fin. L’action, les dialogues sont intelligents, excitants, drôle et très souvent plein d’esprit… Entendre Irene Adler crier au grand détective « No shit, Sherlock ! » a fait exploser la salle de rire. C’était vraiment une bonne référence… Et ce n’était pas la seule allusion aux Sherlock Holmes passés et présents.

Je ne sais pas si cela venait de moi, mais j’ai vraiment eu l’impression que l’élocution de Jason Durr, qui a brillamment interpréter le locataire du 221B Baker Street, rappelait celle de Mr. Jeremy Brett. Jason Durr était un parfait Holmes victorien, hanté par son secret (car dans la pièce, tout le monde a un secret).

Les autres acteurs sont également brillants. Andrew Hall est un Watson très old-fashioned, qui tient énormément à son ami, qui est prêt à tout pour lui. Quant à Irene Adler… Elle a de nombreux secrets aussi et la voir vivre sous le même toit que Holmes (Ce n’est pas ce que vous croyez ! Je le jure !) Et l’appeler Sherlock (Encore une fois, ce n’est pas ce que vous croyez ! Quels vilains esprits vous avez ! Seigneur !)… J’adore le personnage d’Irene – toutes ses incarnations, parce qu’il y a de nombreuses adaptations très différentes du génie en jupons de Doyle – et celle-ci est en est une autre, brillamment créée par Tanya Franks…

Oui,  je me rends compte qu’il est difficile de parler longuement de la pièce sans laisser échapper un ou deux secrets… Donc, je vais simplement ajouter que j’ai adoré les décors, et que l’ambiance du New Theatre de Cardiff, si old-fashioned, était le parfait écrin pour ce joyau.

SHERLOCK HOLMES – THE BEST KEEP SECRET

Is that Sherlock  Holmes can care?

When is brother Mycroft is jailed and accused of treason, Sherlock Holmes who claims to be retired has no other choice than try to find to solve a problem which could be final for Mycroft… Despite the opposition of the British government who sends Lestrade telling Holmes to stay retired. As if!

There is a lot of secrets in this play… And I won’t reveal then, of course.

But, what I could say is that this show was a bliss from the beginning to the end. The action, dialogues are intelligent, thrilling, funny and a lot of time witty… Hearing Irene Adler screaming at the Great detective « No shit, Sherlock! » made the all audience roaring in laughters. It was indeed a nice allusion… And it’s not the only reference to past and present Sherlock Holmes.

I don’t know if it’s me, but the elocution of Jason Durr, who brilliantly impersonated the famous tenant of 221B Baker Street, reminded me of Mr. Jeremy Brett. Durr was a perfect Victorian Holmes, haunted by his secret (because in the play, everybody has secret…)

The rest of the cast was great too. Andrew Hall is a very old-fashioned Watson, very carrying for his friend, ready to do anything for him.  As for Irene Adler… She is full of secrets too and seeing her living under the same roof as Holmes (it’s not what you think! promise!), and calling him Sherlock (again, not what you think! What naughty minds you have! Dear!)… I love Irene Character – all incarnations, because there are many different adaptations of the female genius of Doyle – and this one is another version, brilliantly offered but Tanya Franks…

Yes, It’s difficult to talk a lot about this play without letting slip one or two of the secrets… So, I will add that I have loved the scenery, and the ambiance of the so old-fashioned Cardiff New Theatre. It’s the perfect case for this jewel of a play.
